5-Minute Prep Dijon Mustard Baked Chicken Legs

Have you ever prepared delicious dairy-free chicken legs baked in dijon mustard? Best ever umami chicken recipe based on French cuisine.

If you or your guests are true mustard lovers, then don’t miss out on this Dijon mustard recipe. But if you can’t get your hands on Dijon, you can use regular mustard spread. Both flavors go great with this recipe.

Why Dijon Mustard is the Best Marinade for Chicken Legs

The vinegar in the mustard tenderizes the meat while the mustard seeds create a crust.

How to swap Dijon with regular mustard

No Dijon? No problem. Mix 1 tablespoon yellow mustard with 1 tablespoon olive oil, salt, and pepper for an easy dairy-free glaze. For extra depth, add a pinch of turmeric or curry powder. It takes under a minute, but even a simple mix of yellow mustard and salt works in a pinch!

Quick Facts: The “Divine” History of Dijon

Shelf-Life Champ: Unopened Dijon lasts 2–3 years on the shelf, while yellow mustard lasts 1–2 years. Once opened, both stay fresh in the fridge for about 1 year.

Generic vs. Protected: Most “Dijon” uses Canadian seeds, but true Moutarde de Bourgogne must be grown in Burgundy, France (PGI status).

The “Godly” Name: Often nicknamed “Divine Mustard,” its name is linked to the Latin Divionense (from the city of Dijon).
